Montcalm football ready to take next step in 2020

WOAY – Although Montcalm finished 2-8 last season, the fact that both wins came toward the end of the year has given them something to build on entering 2020.

The Generals have endured similar obstacles to their preseason compared to other area teams, specifically the condensed practice schedule, but they’re thankful for a chance to see the progress made over the past three weeks.

Leading the way for Montcalm will be six seniors who bring valuable playing experience from past seasons, but the Generals will have a new quarterback in Ethan Nichols. They were able to play a scrimmage Monday night against PikeView in Princeton.

Montcalm opens the season Saturday against River View; the game was moved to Saturday to allow the Raiders to complete the statewide requirement of 14 preseason practices before a contest. River View won last year’s meeting 36-6 in Bradshaw.
