Monroe Flood Plain Manager provides Alderson flooding update

UNION, WV (WOAY) – Two weeks ago, Alderson received two and a half inches of rain in a thirty minute window, which caused flooding on the back side of the town.

Damage was done to an estimated twenty five houses in Monroe County and another ten in Greenbrier. The impact has shown to be a little bit less than what was initially expected.

“Outside of city limits in Monroe County, where I’m the flood plain manager, up Dark Collar Road I had three houses that had minor damage,” said Monroe Flood Plain Manager Jeff Jones. “Two of them had minor damage to the house, basically underneath the non-living spaces. One resident, the only thing he had problem with was a culvert that was going to his house.”

The National Guard has finished clean-up on the Monroe County side and has moved to the Greenbrier area.
