Monroe County, WV (WOAY) – A skunk has tested positive for rabies in southern West Virginia.
According to a media release from the Monroe County Health Department, a skunk, found in the Gap Mills area of Monroe County tested positive on Friday, June 6, 2025.
The Monroe County Department of Health warns residents that rabies is a viral disease that is spread though bites or saliva to people, other pets or livestock.
The release also advises people on preventative measures such as:
Avoid contact with wild animals, especially bats, raccoons, skunks and foxes.
Make sure you get your pets and livestock have updated rabies vaccinations.
