Monroe County, WV (WOAY) The Monroe County Health Department is issuing a public health advisory following a positive case of rabies.
According to an official release from the health department, a raccoon discovered on Buster Brown Road tested positive for rabies.
The viral illness is transmissible to pets, livestock, and humans through bites or contact with saliva.
The Health Department urges the community to protect themselves by avoiding contact with wild animals, especially bats, raccoons, skunks, and foxes.
Additionally, ensure your pets and livestock are vaccinated against rabies and up to date on their shots.
Finally, if you or your pet has been exposed, contact your local healthcare provider or veterinarian immediately.
