Kanahwa County, WV (WOAY) – On Monday, April 20, Spring Gobbler season kicks off, so look out, all you turkeys.
Only bearded turkeys are permitted during the spring, and there is a season bag limit of 2 and no more than one per day. The season ends on May 24.
There are different techniques used to hunt the spring and fall turkey seasons.
Spring is mating season. Maybe you have already heard that unique gobble coming from the woods. Hunters during the spring will mimic that gobble to call the male turkey in.
Turkeys have great eyesight and hearing. Full camo is recommended; blaze orange is not required for Turkey hunting. So, that means you must be extra careful and know what you are shooting and what is behind it.
Be sure to have your hunting license up to date and follow all DNR regulations, which can be found at their website, here: Wvdnr.gov
Also, remember to keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot and always let friends or family know where you are hunting and when they can expect you back.
Have fun out there in the woods!
