WOAY – The West Virginia Miners continue to hold the best record in the Prospect League following a 6-0 win over the Champion City Kings Tuesday night in Beckley.
The matchup was scheduled to be the first game of a doubleheader, but weather forced the game to be called after six innings and a delay of more than one hour.
The Miners established momentum early, scoring four runs in the first inning and two in the second. Fernando Ortiz batted 2-3 with two RBI, while Maddux Houghton, Chris Bashlor, and Dalton Davis also brought in runs. Jacob Rucker recorded the win in his first game as a Miner, striking out four in 5.2 innings.
A doubleheader is scheduled Wednesday, with the first game to start at 4:00 PM. The two teams will then play in Springfield, Ohio on Thursday.
