We’re seeing more showers and storms roll through the region this afternoon, but the coverage is not as great as it was yesterday. The intensity is not the same, either, but there are still some storms around.
Tonight, we’ll see the showers end, and there will be some patchy fog, especially in places that have seen rain. Lows will be mild again, generally in the lower to middle 60s.
Tomorrow will be an active day around southern West Virginia. After some morning showers, a warm front will overspread the state. While the cloud cover would tend to limit the amount of atmospheric instability that might develop, any sun that does break out will help to make the atmosphere more primed for strong to severe storms to develop. If any storms do become severe, damaging winds are by far the main threat.
The tornado and large hail threat is basically zero in our area. One possible issue with the storms tomorrow will be flooding. There is plenty of moisture for any storms that develop to work with. The Weather Prediction Center has the area in the “Slight” risk category for excessive rainfall, meaning that flooding is a possibility. Mainly, we’ll see the usual issues when we have heavy rain in a short amount of time.
The effect of the warm front will be to raise our temperatures a bit compared to today, despite the cloud cover. Highs will be in the mid-70s.
Thursday, we’ll see another round of showers and storms. While the threat of severe weather will be smaller, the threat of flooding will continue as the cumulative rain totals begin to pile up. The chance for rain lasts into Friday before tapering off during the evening. Hopefully, it will be over before the high school teams tee it up, but if you’re headed out to the games, a rain jacket will be a good accessory to have just in case.
Similar to last weekend, the weekend ahead features a mixed bag. Another round of showers is in the forecast on Saturday, while Sunday will feature mostly sunny skies. Highs both days will be in the 70s, with slightly warmer readings on Sunday with the extra sunshine. The mostly sunny skies stay with us into next week, to the end of the extended forecast, although there are indications that some rain will return to the forecast by Tuesday.
