BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Toys for Tots is again bringing the hope of Christmastime to southern West Virginia children.
From October 1 to November 30 at 11:59 pm, they accepted generous community donations for families in need.
If you missed that window, you still have another way to give. TTSWV is holding a toy drive on Friday, Dec. 12, at the Eisenhower Drive Walmart, Fayette County Walmart, and Lewisburg Walmart.
“I have Raleigh, Fayette, Nicholas, Webster, and Wyoming here,” said Event/Fundraising Coordinator Lora Stevens, of their collection of new toys. “We keep them separated by county, and then take the applications and basically shop for the kid.”
According to Stevens, they have been running low on 0 to 2 boys’ and girls’ baby products.
“Some of the toys are unisex, so that doesn’t matter,” she said. “But we also have a decent amount of three to five boys and girls, 6 to 9, boys and girls, 10 to 12, boys and girls. And then 13 to 15 boys and girls is really hard.”
Toys for Tots says Nerf guns, Axe or Old Spice body wash kits, and cologne are good for boys. Girls are enjoying crafts, as well as make-up and bath bombs.
“Really, anything is greatly appreciated. We can make it work somehow. They can actually still donate — drop off at Lewis Nissan,” said the event/fundraising coordinator, extending her big thank you to the (car dealership’s) Chad and Rachel. “Who, for the past three years, have allowed us to use their old car space in that building. And that is a big, big help.”
She says many of these kids wouldn’t have anything under the Christmas tree if it weren’t for Toys for Tots.
“Actually, it’s a very rewarding experience, if anybody would like to get on board and help next year, volunteers are much needed. Definitely means a lot, makes your heart feel all warm, and it’s worth it,” Stevens said, of the impact they have on children.
