Princeton, WV (WOAY) – A Mercer County woman is in jail after being arrested on animal cruelty charges.
36-year-old Jennifer Dawn Shorter of Princeton is charged with 3 counts of animal cruelty for allegedly abandoning 3 of her animals that led to the death of one puppy from starvation.
According to court documents, officers with the Princeton Police Department were called to a home to respond to a complaint of animal cruelty. Officers began investigating and discovered two malnourished puppies. A third puppy was discovered dead on the floor of one of the bedrooms. After investigating the home further officers was unable to find any food or water for the animals. Police officers obtained an arrest warrant for Shorter, and she was arrested last week.
The surviving animals were transported to the Mercer County animal shelter for treatment.
Jennifer Shorter remains in the Southern Regional Jail on a $6,000 cash only bond.
