Mercer County man facing assault charges after allegedly striking a woman with a handgun in Bluefield

Bluefield, WV (WOAY) A Mercer County man is facing assault charges after police say he struck a woman with a handgun in Bluefield.
According to Bluefield Police, officers responded to PCH Bluefield on April 15 after a woman arrived with severe facial injuries.
The victim told officers she was sitting in a vehicle outside a Woodland Avenue residence shortly before midnight when the father of her child, identified as 21-year-old Jad’Ean Isiah Smith, approached the vehicle and allegedly struck her in the face multiple times with a handgun.
Police say the victim described the weapon as a black Glock-style handgun with an extended magazine and told officers Smith left the scene in a black Jeep Patriot.
Officers later located the vehicle at a residence in Bluefield, but Smith was not found.
Based on the victim’s statement and injuries observed by officers, police issued an arrest warrant charging Smith with malicious or unlawful assault.
Smith has since been arrested and awaits further court proceedings in Southern Regional Jail on a $10,000 cash bail.
