Princeton, WV (WOAY) – A person is taken to a hospital after an alleged shooting in Mercer County.
The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a person being shot at a business on Athens Road in the Princeton area. The call came in Mercer County Dispatch around 7:15 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2025.
According to a media release from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, as deputies were headed to the scene, they were informed by 911 dispatchers that a gunshot victim was taken to WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital.
Several deputies responded to the business location to begin working the scene, collect evidence and work towards developing a suspect. At the same time other deputies responded to PCH to make contact with the victim and conduct interviews. According to the media release, the victim received severe but non-life-threatening injuries.
As a precaution WVU Princeton Community Hospital temporarily instituted heightened security protocols for the emergency department. According to a Facebook post, PCH has since resumed normal hospital operations.
Deputies say the investigation is ongoing at this time. They ask anyone with information about suspects, or the location of any suspects to contact the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office or Mercer County 911.
