Mercer County declares State of Emergency

Mercer County, WV (WOAY)—Due to severe weather, Mercer County is currently under a state of emergency.

The county is experiencing mass power outages, downed trees, dangerous winds, heavy rains, and possible injuries.

The city of Bluefield advises residents across the county not to leave their homes if they can avoid it due to the heavy rain and flooding.

This follows Governor Jim Justice declaring a state of preparedness for all of our viewing area, encompassing 22 counties of West Virginia.

The state of preparedness will remain in effect for 30 days unless it is terminated by the governor early.

We will inform you of further updates as we learn more.
