Mercer County Courthouse ADA Project finishes early

MERCER COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – The Mercer County Commission began planning its Americans with Disabilities Act Project back in 2017.

The Commission received a $100,000 grant for new ramps, sidewalks and handrails outside the the main entrance to the Courthouse. The original entrance was accessible starting this morning.

“There are many requirements that come from this being a historic structure,” said Mercer County Commissioner Bill Archer. “One of those requirements was matching up the cement that was used in the project with the existing building and what the stones are now. It was a very difficult challenge. As you see, they came pretty darn close to it here.”

There will be a dedication ceremony for the new ramp on August 12 at 11:30 a.m. at the Mercer County Courthouse.
