Mercer County, WV (WOAY)- One county is trying to streamline communication with pawn shops when it comes to stolen property.
The Mercer County Commission and Sheriff’s Department want to implement an ordinance the creating a database between the county pawn shops and law enforcement in Mercer County.
The idea came from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department after reading a similar ordinance from Kanawha County.
This database would have information on items bought by pawn shops from their customers.
This way officers won’t need to travel to the shops, disrupting potential business looking for items, just if the shop has what law enforcement is looking for.
The measure was tabled at the last county commission meeting due to clerical items that needed attention.
Commission President Bill Archer believes it will pass in the next meeting.
