McDowell County sees a jump in COVID-19 numbers

MCDOWELL COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – The McDowell County Health Department says the county is now up to 50 total cases of COVID-19.

The county has eight new confirmed cases of COVID-19, in which 38 are currently active.

The eight new cases are from community spread. The Health Department released a statement below.

McDowell County Health Department Officials have confirmed EIGHT additional cases of COVID-19 on Monday afternoon August 3, 2020, bringing the overall total cases to fifty with thirty-eight active. The eight new cases today are all attributed to community spread. Our thirty-eight active cases are located throughout the county. Please follow the recommended guidelines when you are out in public.

The Health Department is working to identify all contacts in these cases. Anyone who is identified as being a contact will be notified by the Health Department. If you are identified as an official contact by the Health Department, please follow all guidelines given to you. Following these guidelines will help to protect others and helps to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The McDowell County Health Department urges all residents to do your part to help slow the spread of COVID-19 by practicing social distancing, wearing face coverings, avoiding large crowds, and washing your hands frequently.

Due to Federal HIPAA guidelines, no other information about these cases will be given.
