Huntington, WV (WOAY) – Marshall football players took advantage of an opportunity to show their skills to NFL scouts.
According to a media release from Marshall University, it’s estimated that 29 of 32 NFL teams were represented at Marshall’s Pro Day in Huntington on Tuesday March 25, 2025. Potential first round draft pick Mike Green was the reason many of the NFL scouts made the trip to Huntington, but it also gave other lesser-known talent the opportunity to showcase their talent.
Having the opportunity to perform in Huntington made the high-pressure event a little easier and Marshall athletes like Green made the most of it.
Green was able to impress NFL scouts in attendance, boasting of a 3-Cone Drill that was a 6.85 and a 20-yard shuttle that was 4.25. A time like this would have been No. 1 among all Defensive Linemen and Linebackers at the 2025 NFL Combine while his 20-yard Shuttle time would have ranked him No. 2 among all Defensive Linemen and Linebackers.
“I think it was great being able to see all my teammates that I played with,” Green said. “It’s a pleasure to go out and show what we can do. I think just being out here, being around everybody, coming back to Marshall – my second home – it was a pleasure to be here, and I love everybody here.”
Another Marshall Player who made the most of the Pro Day opportunity was safety J.J. Roberts, who had previously been lauded in the pre-draft process by NFL Draft Insider Mel Kiper, Jr.
Roberts proved Kiper right by putting on an athletic performance for the scouts in attendance.
Comparatively speaking, Roberts put in a workout in which SIX of his numbers would have ranked him in the Top-5 among all safeties invited to the 2025 NFL Combine. Those numbers include:
–      40-yard dash: 4.41 (Tied-3rd among NFL Combine safeties)
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Pro bench reps (225 pounds): 20 (Tied for 1st)
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Vertical: 40.5 inches (4th)
–Â Â Â Â Â Â 10-yard split: 1.46 seconds (1st)
–Â Â Â Â Â Â 20-yard shuttle: 4.11 (2nd)
–Â Â Â Â Â Â 3-Cone Drill: 6.76 (2nd)
“I’m going to stay fresh, stay in shape,” Roberts said. “I will probably have some interviews to do after today, so I’m going to stick to the process and go where God takes me.”
Marshall’s contingent of 15 players to work out for scouts on Monday included Mike Green, J.J. Roberts, Jordan Houston, J’Coryan Anderson, Christian Fitzpatrick, defensive linemen Deeve Harris, TyQaze Leggs, Jude Okolo, Jason Shuford and RaQuan Thompson, offensive linemen Jeremy Jones and Elijah Ellis, running back Ethan Payne, wide receiver DeMarcus Harris and safety Ish Roy.
