WEST VIRGINIA (WOAY) – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $2,252,716 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection for water and air pollution management and monitoring programs.
“Every West Virginian deserves clean air to breathe and fresh water to drink. This funding will go towards improving West Virginia’s water and air quality by monitoring and managing pollutants in our systems. West Virginia is known for our wild and wonderful outdoors, and to keep them that way we must ensure our air and water are both cared for. I am pleased the EPA is investing in West Virginia’s efforts and I look forward to seeing how these programs keep West Virginians safe,” said Senator Manchin.
”It is great to see this funding from EPA coming to West Virginia to support initiatives that further safeguard our air and water standards. The investments in the state’s nonpoint source program will address watershed runoff and identify sources of pollution in our streams, lakes, and rivers. Additionally, the funding to support our state’s air monitoring system will ultimately strengthen the foundation of our network and further our data collection capabilities. Through my work on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, I have overseen these programs and fought to make sure West Virginians have access to clean air and water that is free of pollutants, and I will continue working to ensure that West Virginians throughout our state are protected,” said Senator Capito.
