Beckley, WV (WOAY)The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office says teamwork between several deputies helped lead to an arrest and the recovery of multiple stolen items.
Deputy Villers began investigating a stolen vehicle reported in the Piney View area on August 24 and developed information identifying 48-year-old Michael Shawn Ayers as a possible suspect.
The vehicle was later located in Beckley.
The following day, Deputy Quesenberry encountered Ayers during an unrelated burglary investigation and found him with jewelry and gift cards believed to be connected to other thefts.
Investigators recovered the stolen property, and Ayers later confessed to stealing the vehicle.
The sheriff’s office says a stolen vehicle, jewelry, gift cards, and a chainsaw were all recovered and returned to their owners.
Ayers was arrested and charged with two counts of burglary, grand larceny, and petit larceny.
He awaits further court proceedings in Southern Regional Jail on a $250,000 bond.
