Flat Top, West Virginia (WOAY) A man is facing charges in Mercer County.
According to a criminal complaint, on July 7 at 2:47 a.m., officers responded to a complaint at 700 Dunns Road in Flat Top.
The caller reported her boyfriend, identified as Anthony Cain, shot her father in the foot and was still on the property, potentially inside a single-wide mobile home.
Upon arrival and an initial search of the area, authorities were not able to find the suspect.
Officers then moved to check the mobile home, calling for Cain to come outside, but he did not respond.
Authorities helped escort the victim from the home, and Ghent EMS transported him to Raleigh General Hospital for treatment.
Officers called Mercer County SWAT for assistance due to Cain being potentially armed and barricaded inside the residence.
SWAT arrived on scene and, shortly after receiving consent to enter the home, arrested Cain without further incident.
Upon investigating the scene, authorities found the firearm believed to be used in the shooting: a 9mm Taurus G2C in a dresser drawer within the master bedroom where the suspect was found.
Officers also discovered two Marijuana Plants, two spent 9mm cartridges from the driveway, and video footage obtained from CCTV cameras at the residence which recorded the incident.
While processing the scene, officers observed a bullet hole in the front screen door of the victim’s residence.
After reviewing video footage, authorities saw Cain fire approximately two shots away from the residence and walk back toward his vehicle.
Officers further witnessed Cain flinching as if he heard gunfire once reaching the trunk area of the vehicle, and then firing approximately two shots in the direction of the front of
the residence.
When Cain fired at the residence, there were six people inside, including three children.
A criminal history inquiry on Cain revealed a prior felony drug conviction in Guilford County, North Carolina in 2005.
Officers interviewed Cain, who reported an argument between him and the victim on the front porch.
Cain stated the victim shot in his direction and he returned fire.
Cain now faces several charges, including malicious wounding, use of a firearm during commission of a felony, 6 counts of wanton endangerment, person prohibited from possessing a firearm, and manufacturing and possessing a Schedule I Substance.
