Man accused of shooting at deputy in Clay County

Lizemores, WV (WOAY) – An arrest has been made, and an investigation is underway in a Clay County shooting.

According to a media release from the West Virginia State Police, the incident happened on Sunday March 30, 2025, about 2:30 p.m.

A Nicholas County deputy had been shot at while responding to a residence at Ripatoe Road in Lizemores, Clay County by someone at the residence.

WV State Trooper Lane and also responded to the home as well as West Virginia State Police Special Response Team (SRT) B Team.

Before the arrival of SRT, Troopers were able to take 32-year-old Joshua Leaf Carver into custody without incident.

According to the release Joshua Leaf Carver is charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder.
