Locals raising money for OHHS stadium restroom remodel

Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) A group of active citizens is raising money to help Oak Hill High School renovate the restrooms at their football stadium.

The John P. Duda Stadium and other Red Devil athletic facilities have undergone several renovations in recent years. However, citizen activist and former West Virginia delegate Dave Perry says that the restrooms locals use when they come to support the Red Devils football team are in desperate need of similar treatment.

“This project started with Principal Katie Hayes, Calvin Kidd, Adam Toney, and myself. We were talking to her, and she said, ‘I’d like to redo the restrooms,’ particularly in light of the other renovations and improvements being made to Oak Hill High School stadium. So we said, ‘Katie, we’ll take that project on for the community.”

Perry says the fundraising effort has been successful so far, but more is still needed to make the project a reality.

“The conditions when we started were absolutely substandard… We decided that it was worthwhile to completely renovate and redo the restrooms… The only bid we’ve got to date is $68,000. And what’s great is, as we speak, we’ve raised $37,000. And of course, we’ll take $5, $1 $10, $10,000, whatever anyone is willing to contribute. And at the end of the day, we will put a plaque with all the contributors outside the restrooms.”

Perry says those who want to help should direct their donations to Donna Legg Hendrickson, OHHS/CHS Alumni Association (fiscal agent), P.O. Box 462, Oak Hill, WV 25901, or to Superintendent David Warvel, F.C.B.O.E. (recipient), 111 Fayette Avenue, Fayetteville, WV 25840.

“If you have any questions, you can direct those to me at 304-663-5300 or dgperry78@gmail.com. And I’d be happy to answer any questions, meet with them, talk to them, and explain what we’re doing. But it’s truly a community effort.”
