Local business honors nurses for National Nurses Week

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – May 6th Kicks off the first day of National Nurses Week. Owner of Spartan Factory Tom Buckland is putting his 20 years of experience to work to honor those in the fight against COVID-19.

“It gives me a sense of pride as a small business owner that I’ve been able to support other people,” said Tom Buckland.

Tom and a local doctor named David Stuart are teaming up to provide heartfelt T-shirts for local nurses during National Nurses Week.

“God found the strongest people and made them nurses,” said Buckland.

Dr. Stuart funded the project while Tom is the main man behind the operation.

“This week I think of epitomizes just these the role that they play and we appreciate it all that they do to help the patient in terms of helping them healthcare. This week especially we see how much we value them,” said Stuart.

Dr. Stuart has sponsored over 100 T-shirts that will be delivered to local medical facilities throughout town. For Dr. Stuart, honoring nurses hits home. His wife is a registered nurse.

“We see the patient, but in terms of the length of time we send with the patients is minuscule compared to the nursing staff. They are with the patient from the moment they come to the hospital to the moment they leave. The physician comes and may make the orders and decisions. But we are not the ones who send most of the time with the patients the nurses are. So they really are the true engine of health care and how the patient is taken care of,” said Stuart.
