Lewisburg City Council approves body cameras for police department

LEWISBURG, WV (WOAY) – The Lewisburg City Council recently voted to purchase new body cameras for the entire police department.

This purchase will add on to the car cameras that are currently located in every department police car. Mayor Beverly White supported the proposal from Lewisburg Police Chief Chris Teubert.

“The first of the year, we had asked the council to purchase a body camera to further upgrade the system and do a pilot program to see if it was something that the city wanted,” Teubert said. “In light of current events, the city decided just to go ahead and purchase new car cameras and body cameras that are integrated for every officer in the city.”

The cost for the cameras is projected to be around $135,000 paid over a five-year lease.
