Laid-off workers fears for unemployment

PRINCETON, WV (WOAY) – As layoffs skyrocket across the state many people are concerned about paying their bills.

Unemployment rates are expected to rise by the end of march governor Jim Justice anounced people with jobs affected by COVID-19 are eligible to receive the maximum extent permitted under federal law. a local Laid-off waitress, Katelyn Comer says she fears for the future even with unemployment checks.

“I actually applied online on the workforce West Virginia site where you can apply for unemployment and the estimate that I was given for what I may receive if I’m eligible is about not even half of what I make a week. So I am very concerned about that as well because it’s probably going to pay the rent first and see what else can be paid,” said a local waitress Katelyn Comer.
