Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) The unofficial start of fall is almost upon us, and as Labor Day travelers plan their excursions, they should expect higher travel costs and delays from heavy traffic.
According to AAA, flights to top domestic destinations cost nearly 20 percent more than this time last year, and hotels are also more expensive both at home and internationally.
AAA also reports a strong demand for Alaska cruises and national park vacations.
For those sticking to land, AAA recommends motorists depart early, allow extra travel time, and avoid afternoon departures. Holiday travelers can expect the heaviest congestion on Thursday and Friday as they share the road with regular commuter traffic.
Current trends suggest motorists will also pay more for gas than this time last year. Michigan’s average gas price on Labor Day 2025 was $3.30 per gallon.
Early Monday, the national average was almost $4.08 per gallon, while the West Virginia average gas price was just below $3.95.
