Elkview, WV (WOAY) A Kanawha County man is behind bars after deputies say a neighbor helped stop a burglary in progress.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home on Big Fork Road in Elkview after a neighbor reported seeing a masked man enter the residence through a rear door.
Deputies identified the suspect as Scotty Eugene Dennis.
Investigators say they found evidence of an attempted theft inside the home, and Dennis later admitted to entering the residence and stealing tools that were recovered from his vehicle.
Dennis was charged with burglary and was arraigned on a $50,000 cash-only bond before being taken to South Central Regional Jail.
Chief Joe Snuffer praised the neighbor’s quick actions and deputies’ response, saying the incident highlights the important role residents play in helping keep their communities safe.
