Kanawha County deputy shot in line of fire

SISSONVILLE, WV (WOAY) – A Kanawha County deputy is recovering after being shot in the line of duty early this morning.

Deputies were chasing a car in Sissonville in connection to an active disturbance call. The car they were chasing eventually came to a stop on Applehill Lane shortly after 1 a.m.

As a deputy got out of his vehicle, a man later identified as Nathan Oxley opened fire from inside his car and hit the deputy once. The deputy was able to return fire and radio for backup.

Police were eventually able to take Oxley into custody after using nonlethal force. he has been charged with attempted murder of a police officer and malicious wounding.

Additionally, a woman who was also in the car was caught after a lengthy search.

She was identified as Rebecca Linville and is being treated for prolonged exposure to cold.

The deputy is currently in stable condition and is awaiting surgery. officers from Charleston, South Charleston, Nitro, and Saint Albans assisted the Kanawha County sheriff’s office.
