Charleston, WV (WOAY) – A deputy with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office has been arrested for allegedly committing a crime against an inmate in while in his custody.
54-year-old Cass A. Close of Quick, WV has been arrested and charged by the West Virginia State Police with one count of imposition of sexual acts on persons incarcerated, detained or under supervision.
According to Kanawha County Sheriff Joe Crawford, the alleged incident took place on Tuesday July 29, 2025.
Close appeared in Kanawha County Magistrate Court on Thursday July 31 and his bond is set at $100,000 cash.
Cass Close has been terminated from his position as a Kanawha County Sheriff’s Deputy.
The case remains under investigation by the West Virginia State Police.
