Justice wins West Virginia GOP nomination for governor

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – Incumbent West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice has won the Republican nomination for reelection against six others, including his former commerce secretary, Woody Thrasher, and ex-state delegate Mike Folk.

Kanawha County Commissioner Ben Salango, state Sen. Ron Stollings and community organizer Stephen Smith are leading a pack of five candidates on the Democratic side. Republican Shelley Moore Capito won the West Virginia primary for U.S. Senate, where she is seeking her second six-year term. Joe Biden won the state’s Democratic presidential primary and Donald Trump won the Republican primary. Other races include those for U.S. House, the legislature, agricultural commissioner and attorney general.

There also are state Supreme Court races.
