(WASHINGTON, DC) WOAY – Senator Joe Manchin has sent a letter to the commissioner of the National Center for Education Statistics; Peggy Carr, to urge her to help make sure she doesn’t leave Appalachian students behind.
The NCES takes data from schools in different areas, rural, town, suburban, and city, and then takes this info to help divvy up funding.
Manchin is saying that the current method is leaving West Virginia out, by not accurately accounting for our mountainous terrain.
This letter follows funding being taken away from three West Virginia counties by the EPA due to these previously mentioned errors.
