Investigation underway in Mercer County following Sunday night shooting that left one man seriously injured

Matoaka, WV (WOAY)- Mercer County authorities and state police are seeking answers following a shooting on Sunday that left one man seriously injured. 

According to a media release from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, on July 13, around 9:00 p.m., the Mercer County 911 Center dispatched county sheriff’s deputies and state troopers to the Lashmeet Dollar General in response to a reported shooting. 

Upon arrival, authorities discovered a 52-year-old man from Matoaka suffering from gunshot wounds to his arm and leg. 

Officers on the scene administered first aid until the Princeton Rescue Squad arrived to transport the victim to a hospital for further medical treatment. 

The alleged shooter contacted law enforcement and was interviewed by authorities the same day. 

Authorities are not releasing any further information at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
