Individuals covered under PUA can expect to see unemployment benefits soon

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Self-employed workers, contractors, and gig workers who filed for unemployment can soon expect to see their benefits.

According to Delegate Mick Bates starting today the first claims for PUA will be processed. People can expect to see payments as soon as this weekend. Bates also encourages people who were initially declined to apply again.

“It’s been very frustrating for a lot of people that not been able to get the benefits that they applied for and are entitled to because of the backlog and the system is overwhelmed with requests. So what I can tell you starting today this evening and over the weekend the first claims for PUA will begin to be processed,” said Bates.

Bates says anyone who’s having a difficult time getting their unemployment claims process to email him at Mick.Bates@HouseWV.gov.
