Independence Wins Sectional Championship

Beckley, WV (WOAY) – Independence baseball celebrated a sixth straight sectional championship following a 4-3 win in nine innings against Wyoming East. The game started on Tuesday, was suspended due to weather, and resumed Thursday in the top of the ninth at Epling Stadium.

The Patriots took a 4-3 lead with a bases-loaded walk in the ninth, but Wyoming East countered by loading the bases with no outs. However, Hunter Schoolcraft came on in relief to record the final three outs.

Independence was led by Fisher Horton, who batted 4-5 and scored one run. For the Warriors, Tanner Hall batted 2-5 with two RBI and one run scored. Hayden Miller and McQuade Canada were the pitchers of record.
