Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) The West Virginia Governor’s Highway Safety Program wants to remind drivers that law enforcement will be targeting motorists who fail to stop at red lights and stop signs during the Target Red high-visibility enforcement mobilization, running August 1st-15th.
Rolling stops at stop signs will also result in citations.
GHSP Director Jack Neely also wants to remind drivers that a yellow light is a warning to prepare to stop, not an invitation to speed up.
According to the West Virginia Department of Transportation, intersection crashes accounted for nearly 20% of all crashes in the state from 2019 to 2024, with speeding and aggressive driving as the top causes.
The August Target Red campaign also coincides with National Stop On Red Week. So this month and always, remember to slow down, save a life, and stop.
