Huntington Mayor Steve Williams joins 2024 Governor’s race

Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) – Huntington Mayor Steve Williams says he plans to run for West Virginia Governor, making him the first and only Democratic candidate just eight months before the primary election.

Williams announced his bid for governor during the United Mine Workers of America’s 84th annual Labor Day celebration in Racine.

Several Republican candidates have already thrown their hat in the ring, including local businessman Chris Miller, House of Delegates member and Judiciary Committee chairman Moore Capito, Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, Secretary of State Mac Warner, daycare owner Rashida Yost, and agriculturer Terri Bradshaw.

Additional candidates include former combat veteran Chase Linko Looper, who is running as an independent for the Mountain party.
