SOFTBALL

Wyoming East is the Class AA Region 3 champion for a second straight year after winning Tuesday 8-0 against Shady Spring. Holly Brehm had eight strikeouts for the Lady Warriors, and brought in several early runs to establish early momentum. Wyoming East advances to next week’s state tournament along with Herbert Hoover, Chapmanville, and the winner of the Weir-Petersburg regional series, which is still taking place.

In Class A, the second game between Greenbrier West and Fayetteville was suspended in the fifth inning due to weather, with the Lady Cavs leading 14-3. Video highlights of Tuesday’s game can be found above. It will resume at 4 PM Wednesday, with a third game (if necessary) starting immediately afterward. The Lady Pirates lead the best-of-three series 1-0.

BASEBALL

In Class AA Region 3 Section 1, the championship game between Wyoming East & Independence was suspended in the ninth inning tied at 3-3. The Patriots had rallied from a 3-0 deficit to force extra innings and will have the bases loaded when play resumes at 6 PM Wednesday.

James Monroe won Section 2 for a second straight year following a 10-7 win Tuesday against Shady Spring. The Mavericks had an early 6-1 lead, before the Tigers rallied to tie the game at 7-7. Grant Mohler hit the walk-off three-run home run for the Mavericks, who await Wyoming East or Independence in regionals.
