How Tourism impacts Mercer County

Mercer County, WV (WOAY) – Tourism continues to be a major economic driver in Mercer County.

The Convention and Visitors Bureau reports the industry generated over $200 million in revenue last year.

That spending totals $600,000 per day, a 50% increase since 2019.

The money directly supported more than 1,600 jobs and sent $20 million in tax revenue to State and Local governments.

Visit Mercer County says it is working to build and improve the county’s tourism portfolio.

That work includes restoring the Almost Heaven Swing at the East River Mountain Overlook and developing a new visitor center.

There has also been a successful digital campaign to reach out-of-state travelers.
