It is another pleasant afternoon in southern West Virginia. There is plenty of sunshine and cool temperatures.
If there is a downside (and it isn’t much of one), it’s that there is a bit of a breeze around the area.
Later tonight, as any breeze drops off, temperatures will once again drop into the upper 40s in most areas. If Beckley gets there (and we expect it to), it will be the third consecutive morning that the airport has dropped below 50 degrees.
It will be warming up a bit as we go through the next week in the area. It will be only a few degrees warmer than it is now, and it will not be quite the normal for this time of the year. Highs will rise into the middle 70s by Friday and will stay there for the rest of the extended forecast, warming by a degree or so each day until the high by the middle of next week will be in the middle to upper 70s. Lows will rise into the lower to middle 50s and stay there through the rest of the forecast period.
The forecast for the next seven days also looks dry, but there will be two chances for isolated showers or storms. The first is on Thursday and Friday as a front approaches from the northwest. The front has very little moisture to work with, so chances for rain are very small and will be mainly confined to areas to our north, especially in parts of Ohio and Pennsylvania.
The second chance for rain is on the opposite end of the area in the southern coalfields on Sunday. Here, the chance for showers and isolated storms is small, around 20% and is due to the flow out of the northeast, allowing for upsloping and the chance for some rain.
Overall, it should be a pleasant stretch of weather for us this week and into and through the holiday weekend.
