WOAY – Virginia Tech football has picked to finish fifth in the ACC preseason poll Friday, as voted on by media members.
This year, the ACC will not have Atlantic or Coastal divisions, with Notre Dame included this year to make a 15-team league. The Hokies received 1,318 total points.
Clemson is the overwhelming pick to defend their conference title, receiving 2,008 total votes and 132 first-place votes. Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence was the preseason pick for ACC Player of the Year, and is joined by four teammates on the all-conference preseason team.
Virginia Tech is represented on the All-ACC Preseason Team by linebacker Rayshard Ashby. He led the ACC with 120 total tackles last year, and was a five-time conference Linebacker of the Week; Ashby was named to three watch lists for individual awards over the summer.
The Hokies are scheduled to open the 2020 season September 19 against Virginia. They play 10 ACC games, in addition to a non-conference matchup with Liberty in November.
