History Alive Program honoring “Empress of Blues” Bessie Smith happening at White Sulphur Springs library on February 26

White Sulphur Springs, WV (WOAY) The White Sulphur Springs Public Library is bringing history to life this week.

The library will host a free “History Alive” program on Wednesday night featuring Doris “Lady D” Fields, who will portray Bessie Smith, known as the “Empress of the Blues.”
Smith was the most popular female blues singer of the 1920s and 1930s, and the performance will highlight her life, legacy, and music.
The program begins at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, at the library at 344 West Main Street.
Light refreshments will be served after the program.
