Historic Fayette Theater’s casting for spring musical: ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’

FAYETTEVILLE, WV (WOAY) – The Historic Fayette Theater’s new spring musical is The Emperor’s New Clothes.

Expect the basic story theme but with a bit of a twist. If you want to be part of it, open auditions are being held on Saturday, Jan.4, 2025, at 10 am.

“We’ve had many, many people come who’ve never been on stage before,” said Co-Director Millie Petersen. “If you’re willing to be out there and enjoy yourself, we’re certainly willing to mentor and encourage and welcome you.”

Speaking of the roles — Petersen says he’s a vain emperor and they’re trying to get him new clothes. There are also two con men whose plan is to get the emperor’s jewels while giving him a cut-rate form of clothing.

“In this particular show he has three daughters who are equally vain about their clothing,” the co-director said. “It’s all about how important it is or not to have the perfect clothing and how we go about giving it.”

There will be anywhere from 10 to 17 people cast for multiple roles in The Emperor’s New Clothes.

“Both men and women and high school kids, 13 and up,” said Petersen. “Although most of the cast will be people who are high school to adult age.”

If you are nervous about auditioning, she says rarely do they cast someone who doesn’t want to come back and audition for another show.

“It’s a fun time; great family group, very community-oriented,” the co-director said. “We’re here to have fun and try to produce something that’s a benefit for family entertainment here in our county.”

You can catch the show at the end of March/April.
