HILLTOP, WV (WOAY) – Hilltop Center has kicked off its Fall Festival ‘Leading with Heart’ Initiative.
That focused on the caregivers’ deep, strong relationships with the patients.
“To recognize and reward the staff who provide those direct care, outpatient care every single day,” said Administrator Brian Chapman. “It makes the care even better. It sees them in a whole different light.”
For the Hilltop patients to have such caring and supportive cargivers there for them makes a world of difference.
“Gives them a better quality of life. They see them as not just a caregiver, not just a patient, they know them a little bit better, Chapman said. “They can do the things that that resident or patient prefers, and it just makes their day a whole lot better and a whole lot (more) special.”
Kevin Stover’s Hilltop experience has had a positive impact on his life.
“All the nurses, all the aids that have worked here since I’ve been here are wonderful,” said the three-year resident. “Go beyond what they should a lot of times.”
According to Chapman, the patients don’t often ask for him or the Director of Nursing or the Admissions Director.
“They ask for the CNA or the nurse LPN who takes care of them every day,” the administrator said. “So it does develop a bond and a trust.”
Hilltop’s skilled nursing facility offers post-hospital, short-term rehabilitation as well as long-term and respite care.
“To know that your loved one is being taken care of makes it a whole lot easier to sleep at night,” said Chapman.
Activities Director Crystal Wolfe was honored as ‘Leading with Heart Hero.’
