High schoolers compete for scholarships at 33rd Concord Business Challenge

Athens, WV (WOAY) “We are having our 33rd annual Concord Business Challenge, where we’ve invited high school juniors and seniors from across the region, and they have the opportunity to compete for college scholarships… We have over 300 students today from 11 different schools. So we’re very excited to have them on campus.”

Concord Business Department Chair Allison Bean says the scholarships range from 250 to 1000 dollars. This Thursday’s winners earned each scholarship based on their test scores in a variety of subjects, from current events to business math to Microsoft Office: all skills they would eventually need at the Concord University School of Business.

“We have had several students who have gone through this challenge, and now they’re at Concord and have graduated, and they even love to come back and volunteer as well… You know, we just love being able to see the progression from them being juniors and seniors and coming to the Concord Business Challenge and then seeing them graduate from Concord as well.”

At the awards ceremony, students cheered each other on for their individual achievements and showed their school spirit as they shared collective victories. Outside of the competition, the high school students also got a taste of college life.

“They had that opportunity to walk around campus and see what a university campus looks like because some students have not had that opportunity. So they get to see the Campus Beautiful. They even got to meet with some other programs just to learn more about what Concord has to offer.”

The Concord Business Challenge happens every year and welcomes high school juniors and seniors in the region to compete in business subjects ranging from math and entrepreneurship to graphic design.

“On the Concord University website, if you just type in Concord Business Challenge or CBC, all the information will come up, and you just reach out to us, fill out that form, and we will let you know about the 34th Annual Business Challenge. And we’d love to see you there.”
