Brush Fires Break Out Across Region; High Fire Danger Continues

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Breezy wind, dry weather, the drought and warm temperatures will elevate the fire risk through the weekend.

Hurricane Francine’s moisture will stay south of most of our region. Bluefield to Tazewell County could see a few spits on Friday evening. Upper-level high pressure will ensure a dry pattern into early next week. There is limited upside risk for a few showers Tuesday and Wednesday from a low pressure that will develop east of Francine and stall over the Carolinas.

The Drought Monitor updates on Thursday and we will likely see an expansion of the extreme drought for southern West Virginia. Last Thursday’s update (September 5) is seen below:
