Hico Tornado Part of Larger, Historical Outbreak

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): The rash of tornadoes that swept across eastern Ohio, West Virginia, and Eastern Kentucky set a new record last Tuesday.

The National Weather Service confirms nine tornadoes touched down in the Charleston County Warning area on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. This outbreak now ranks as the largest one on record for the Charleston County Warning Area, with the April 4, 1974 outbreak pushed to the second spot.

Additional storm survey teams were sent to various locations just today, so the number of confirmed tornadoes may indeed be higher than the nine reported thus far. We will keep you abreast of the final total once all the storm assessments have been finalized.
