HICO, WV (WOAY) – Volunteer Twila Smith worked at the pregnancy center in Parsons.
On a visit to Fayette County, she realized we didn’t have one here.
On Saturday, October 4, Smith is celebrating the grand opening of the state’s fourth satellite office at Sunday Road Baptist Church in Hico.
With many blossoming households struggling to afford necessities, she has a passion for providing vital support to Mountain State mothers and babies.Â
“We’re looking to help young families with baby needs, the economy being the way it is, and formula $22 a can,” Fayette Pregnancy Center’s Smith said.Â
Supporting the pregnancy center helps champion young mothers.
“It’s very important for the community to get involved because we are a nonprofit, and need donations,” said Smith. “We are going to start with Wednesdays from 10 to 2.”
According to the volunteer, the pregnancy center specializes in helping young women make positive life choices and find friendship, comfort, hope, and resources.
They welcome a variety of demographics.
“A lot of mothers who have children and maybe just a boyfriend, and they don’t work,” Smith said. “And we have foster mothers come in and get things.”
You can easily earn points in several ways with the pregnancy center’s point system, including reading to your child, taking them to the park, doctor, dentist — and then get the things they need.
“I enjoy helping people, and this is a very good program,” said the volunteer. “It’s all over the United States, and not income-based, so anyone can utilize it.”
That could be for formula, diapers, baby bottles, pacifiers…
“Bibs and onesies, clothes, car seats, we have bathtubs and swings,” Smith said. “We have a new baby bed here. We have all kinds of things. Anything a baby would need.”
