WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Showers featuring heavy rain have passed through Tazewell County just a couple hours ago, resulting in a Flash Flood Warning until 11 AM this morning. A Flood Watch also remains in effect for Tazewell County until 7 PM tonight. No other counties within the viewing area have active watches or warnings, but a few lingering storms and showers are possible through the day.
Showers and storms will be on and off through the day, giving us some decent breaks from the rain after the severe weather we dealt with yesterday. Any thunderstorms that do develop will likely stay sub-severe through the day. The only concern is any further downpours causing flooding issues across the region. There is still a good amount of moisture to work with, resulting in the heavy rain we have seen in Tazewell and surrounding counties this morning. Activity will continue until at least this evening. Temperatures will only reach the mid-70s this afternoon, beginning a cooler trend for our area. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the latest:
After the lingering activity leaves tonight, conditions will get much better for our Thursday. Temperatures will dip into the upper 50s overnight and remain in the mid-70s during the afternoon. It will be cooler than average, but it will also be a near perfect day with mostly sunny skies. Sunscreen and water are still recommended for those heading out for an extended period, but it will be very comfortable out there. These conditions will repeat Friday morning and afternoon before a few isolated showers begin to develop late in the evening and overnight hours. Rain chances will be on the lower end Friday night, but do return to the forecast slightly earlier than first anticipated. From there, rain chances steadily increase.
Rain chances remain scattered for our region this weekend as isolated storms and showers develop across the state. There is not a major disturbance expected to move into the region until next week and temperatures remain cooler. These factors come together to limit storm strength this weekend. Some areas may get little to none while other receive a decent amount of rain during both days. You will want to stay aware and have some rain gear on hand in case showers and storms develop in your area this weekend. Chances remain isolated to scattered through the weekend before increasing slightly next week.
