Heavy rain continues, but nice weather finally arrives later

It’s a mild day around the area, with temperatures in the 70s everywhere. It’s a little cooler than normal, but that’s not a surprise given the cloud cover.

There is a lot of moisture around, as dewpoints are in the 60s and even lower 70s, giving us an almost tropical-like feel to the weather.

Rain totals of more than 2″ have been common throughout that area and throughout much of the region over the past couple of days.

There are more showers and storms around this evening, and there is a Flash Flood Warning for portions of Pocahontas County through 9 p.m., along with a Flood Watch for much of the area until 10 p.m. and until Midnight for parts of the southern coalfields and Greenbrier Valley.

More rain is on the way over the next couple of days, and we’ll continue to track more chances for flooding through most of the week.

Tomorrow, we’ll even toss in a chance for stronger storms, with damaging winds representing the main severe weather threat.

The great news is that the weather improves later this week as the stationary front that has kept rain chances in our forecast for the last several days will finally break down, and nice weather will take us through the weekend, giving us a chance to finally dry out.

The only downside is that it will be hot, as highs will push towards the 90-degree mark.
