Grier Named Offensive Newcomer of the Year

WOAY – West Virginia quarterback Will Grier was named the Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year on Thursday. He is the third Mountaineer to receive this honor in six years, following Charles Sims (2013) and Justin Crawford (2016).

The junior from Davidson, North Carolina threw for 34 touchdowns and nearly 3500 yards in his first season with the Mountaineers before a hand injury during the Texas game. He ranked in the top 10 nationally in multiple categories, and was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week five times.

18 of those touchdown passes were to David Sills, who was the lone Mountaineer named to the All-Big 12 First Team. A full list of area FBS players honored by their respective conferences will be posted next week.
