Greenbrier in Discussions to Host World TeamTennis

GREENBRIER COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – WOAY Sports confirmed Monday that the Greenbrier is currently in discussions to host World TeamTennis later this year.

In a statement, the resort said, “We are hopeful an announcement will come soon about a partnership between the two groups.”

World TeamTennis, founded in 1973, is a mixed-gender professional tennis league featuring five sets per match (men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles). The league currently has nine teams, with the Chicago Smash joining the league this season.

The Greenbrier has continued its tradition in recent years of hosting tennis stars in the fall with the resort’s Champions Tennis Classic. Last year’s event featured major champions Maria Sharapova, Caroline Wozniacki, and Bob & Mike Bryan – regarded as one of the most successful doubles teams in tennis history. Both Bryan brothers were on the Vegas Rollers’ roster for 2019.
